A sauna for a long, damp, mild winter

London winters are rarely severe, but they are grey, wet and long, and that is exactly when a hot cabin at the end of the garden earns its keep. The 44 mm solid spruce walls hold heat well, so the room is up to temperature quickly and stays there.

Where it fits in the capital

Space is the real question in London. The barrel shape is compact, and the 2 m model suits the long, narrow back gardens of terraced and semi-detached houses in the outer boroughs. The sauna needs only a level, firm base such as paving slabs or compacted gravel with slabs, not a foundation.

Larger plots in places like Bromley, Harrow or Surrey commuter towns can take the 3 m barrel or a Quadro.

Delivery and assembly in London

The kit arrives on one pallet by lorry with a tail-lift, left at the kerb or driveway. Making takes 4 to 6 weeks, plus about a week for delivery. Two adults unload and carry the parts through the side passage or over the fence line. Assembly takes around two days with a drill, hammer, spirit level and stepladder, following the illustrated instructions. If you would rather not, our crew assembles it from £990.

Choosing a model for a London garden
